Suggest Treatment For Chronic Neck Pain And Ear Pain

I have been having severe neck/head pain for about a week. Neurologist ordered an x-Ray, no abnormalities noted on images taken of C4 and C5 which have given me trouble in the past. After leaving dr. Office, I noticed a large painful knot had come up behind my right ear. It feels as if someone is stabbing me in the head. The right side of my skull behind ear feels swollen and tender to the touch. My ear hurts inside as well. Shouldn t my neurologist have noticed something? The pain is unbearable. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Chronic neck pain commonly occurs due to cervical spondylosis, cervical OA, rotator cuff tear, wrong posture or it may be indicative of developing heart disease. Get clinically assessed, get blood and imaging tests done. Get treated at the earliest. In the meantime, do stretch exercises with the help of a PT. Take Naproxen / Combiflam, one SOS for relief. You can apply pain relieving gels / ointments and sprays. Earache occurs due to Otitis externa, OM or wax in the ear. Get clinically examined by an ENT. If it is earwax, it will be clinically washed out by the ENT. If it is infection, you may need antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
