Suggest Treatment For Chronic Hepatitis And Insomnia And Muscle Aches

My name s Le, 67 yrs old, male, retired. Have been diagnosed as chronic hepatitis B about 17 yrs ago, and starting with antiviral meds since 2008, including Hepsera 10mg, one tab/day from 2008-2009. HBV DNA did not improve with Hepsera. From 09-10, treatment included a combination of Hepsera and Baraclude 0.5 mg (once daily). From 2010-present, just only Baraclude was taken and all of HBV DNA tests were thereafter undetected. The liver function tests are within normal range (Alt, Ast). HBsAg s always positive, HBsAb s always negative. HBeAg non-reactive, HBeAb reactive, Hep B core Ab, IgM non-reactive (2010) There are a constant abnormality of CO2 (a bit little higher than normal range), platelete (fluctuates around 114,000-120,000) I have symptoms of fatigue, insomnia, bloating, muscle ache, weakness (2 hands), and frequent cramps (fingers, hands, legs, toes). My main complaint now is a persistent dull ache over right back ( under the bottom end of right scapula), it persists most of the time and makes me not sleep normaly. What about your recommendation? Thank you. Kind regard, Le

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It sounds like you are on the right treatment for chronic hepatitis B, assuming you've had a HBV DNA test in the past 6 months and it was still undetected.

Your symptoms could come from many different causes, but the first thing I would want to rule out is liver cirrhosis, especially since your platelet count is low. You should be getting a liver ultrasound every 6 months. Have you had one recently? That would be my next step.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
