Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Heartburn means there is pain in the retrosternal area of chest and the cause is obviously
esophagitis. The primary cause is reflux and not just acidity merely. Prilosec and ll such medications will control your acid production but does not stop reflux of stomach contents into
esophagus hence the problems of heartburn.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Anti-reflux medicine like
Domperidone or Reglan should be tried for about a few months along with antacids.
Stop smoking and alcohol if you are consuming.
Avoid stress and anxiety at any cost.
Improve the diet to suit you the most like soft and bland diet in small but frequent ways.
Upper GI
Endoscopy.
Barium swallow and meal studies.
Esophageal manometry.
If all the medical management fails then surgical correction of the defect and anti-reflux procedure may help you the most.
