Suggest Treatment For Chronic Headache With History Of Sinusitis

Hi. About 4 weeks ago, I started having frequent headaches. I had facial pain in my cheeks and forehead and I felt that Advil wasn t helping any more. I saw my doctor who diagnosed it as sinus infection and put me on Zpack. I felt better after taking them, but when they were finished the pounding headache came back. This time, he put me on Cephtin 500, twice a day for 10 days. I felt better and flew to LA, where on the last day of my antibiotics the pounding headache came back. I called my ENT who prescribed Pathanase, Nasanex, and Sudafed. I have been on those for the past week. I m back in NY and now I have thick, clear mucus and cough. I don t know if my sinus infection is gone yet. I m still suffering and don t know what to do. Please advise! Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of chronic headache with sinusitis and are now experiencing discomfort due to cough, thick clear mucus. You should take steam inhalation 2-3 times a day to get relieve in a natural way. Rinse your mouth and gargle your throat with warm salt water at least four times a day. You can take antihistamines at bed time to ease discomfort. It looks like you are having recurrent sinusitis. You can continue to take your prescription medicines.

You are suggested to get X-ray PNS done to detect any nasal septum deviation or other pathology that is causing you recurrent discomfort. You will be given conservative treatment or surgery may be recommended if needed. Sinusitis triggers headache, for headache you can take acetaminophen, one sos after food when needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
