Suggest Treatment For Chronic Diarrhea

Gastro distress is increasing. Just experienced a stomach pain with explosive diarrhea. The diarrhea has been happening for months--the pain the last week. Taking prescriptions for Type 2 Diabetes, a low level statin, thyroid, a low-dose antibiotic regimen for UTIs. Also taking prilosec. What is? causing this? Kathy M.

Hi.

The antibiotics you arw in could bring on diarrhea, so it all comes down to whether or not the diarrhea was present before you went on the antibiotics or not. If it was present from before then this could be indicative of some chronic underlying condition like irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis, etc. Please check with your prescribing doctor and seek management accordingly.

Best wishes.
