Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough And Wheezing During Pregnancy
The first week of January I got the flu really bad. Ever since then, I've had a wet cough that has not gone away. It's usually the worst and night and morning, but I'm coughing all throughout the day. Sometimes my cough and breathing sounds wheezy and I have a stuffy nose so sometimes it's a little hard to breathe. It also causes me to cough a lot when I'm working out too. Although, I'm never short of breath. Sometimes my coughing turns into coughing fits and makes me want to throw up. Could this be bronchitis?
** 1. Since pregnancy is associated with decreased immune function thus congestion in lungs [chest cough] can be a great risk for mother especially 'pneumonia' so should be promptly evaluated by a doctor and Asthma is another common pathology during pregnancy since asthmatic episodes may impair oxygenation of blood and can adversely effect the fetus.
PS. although asthma medications are safe in pregnancy but you should talk with your health care provider
2. Most studies have revealed/published that "Chronic bronchitis" is rare in most pregnant women, but may be present in those who have smoked cigarettes for long periods of time.
3. During pregnancy, condition associated with cough which are to be evaluated is/are: venous thromboembolism and SLE [systemic lupus erythematous]
4. As most cases of acute bronchitis or exacerbations, are caused by the common cold or influenza, thus one should:
. cover the mouth while coughing/sneezing . regular hand washing/drying. . Avoid crowded places during cold/flu season. . Ask for influenza vaccination.
