Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough And Sore Throat

I have had a barking cough for months, so bad I cannot breath. X-ray clear, doc unsympathetic. Had one week oral steroids which helped but cough come back. Ventaline made me have dry and sore throat. The flare ups are typical where I feel a dryness in my trachea (windpipe) I know then a few days later I will be really ill. What is this, it is just not going away

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The most common cause for chronic cough is post nasal drip which can sometimes be silent.
The person may not be aware of the drip.

The other causes are GERD and asthma.
If you are a known asthmatic then this is the likely cause and you may need to start using a preventer inhaler to reduce the inflammation in the chest

If you are not a known asthmatic then the use of a topical steroid nasal spray and oral anti histamine may help.

I hope this helps
