Suggest Treatment For Chronic Back Pain While On Morphine Sulfate

I am taking dilaudid 2mg 3 times a day for chronic back pain. It isn t taking the pain edge off at all. My question is, I have morphine sulfate 15 tabs. Can I take one of these in addition to the dilaudid every 6 hours or so and be safely using these meds? I have 5 bulging discs, stenosis and severe sciatica down the right leg to the foot. I m seeing my surgeon this week. I ve had two back surgeries, one laminectomy of L5/S1 and one laser scope surgery (ineffective).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Sorry to hear about your pain. Morphine is an opioid analgesic and can be used for severe pain if needed. However, it should be used with great caution and every effort made to consult your doctor before it's usage.

Anyhow for severe pain, you can use it. Don't use it if you have respiratory problems or allergy to it. Don't use it at the same time with Dilaudid.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
