I am a 63 yr old Transgender F2M with Chronic COPD, emphysema and asthma.... stopped smoking totally 4 months ago.... Wanted to know if there are any long term effects to the lungs from a Transgendered masecotmy..... Have not been getting better from meds for 4 months- my doctors have ordered echocardiograms, CT scans and also had a Alpha-1 blood tests??? My breathing is pretty bad, climbing 13 steps really exacerbates my breathing to the point that I start wheezing really bad..... Just wondered what could possibly be doing all this???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Blood checkup/x-ray lung, pulmonary function test would decide the severity of emphysema.

The treatment would involve needful antibiotic, bronchodilators, steroids in form of inhalers.

Avoiding allergens, respiratory exercises (pranayama) would form basic aid. Please consult a chest specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
