Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my partner got chicken pox 14 days ago. he is pretty much healed just few dry scabs left here and there. I have never had chickenpox but was vaccinated a year ago which I assume was incomplete as I did not put the 2nd dose. I have not yet contracted it, so my question is, can we have sex now?
Chickenpox is an acute infectious disease caused by varicellazoster virus. Transmission occurs from person to person from infected respiratory tract secretions and by direct contact with lesions. The period of communicability extends from 1 to 2 days before the onset of rash until lesions have formed crusts. You have taken single dose of vaccine. Single dose also provides protection to a variable extent. Your partner’s lesions have healed but dry scabs are still there. For safety, it is better to avoid having sex for one week more. Thanks
