General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Cough, chest congestion and cold are mostly due to viral infections of pharynx, sinus, larynx, epiglottis, bronchi in infants.

Some times it could be due to bacterial infection also.

Infants are not able to expel out the sputum or mucus as adults can do.So,we can give them proper dosage of drugs and keep them warm by covering the body with baby towels or blankets.

You may go for routine blood count to rule out any infection.

The baby will require antibiotics (quinolones or macrolides) to prevent superinfection with analgesics and antiinflammatories, antihistamines with other supportive treatment in proper dosage.

Consult your paediatrician for further advise.
