Suggest Treatment For Cellulitis In The Foot

I am diabetic and 62 years old. I was in the hospital for a pressure ulcer on my foot. I was told it was cellultis. They also did surgery on the infection and ttook a biopsy of the bone to see if they infection was in the bone. It turns out it is. While in thehospital and 4 weeks with pic, I have been on vancomyciñ 750 mg. Now the wound care Dr says I should have surgery. But the surgeon said he wanted to see if antibiotic would help. What is correct? Thanks in advance. Enid Behrens

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

It is not easy to give you exact recommendation but generally if there is involvemnet of bone, then antibiotic therapy is rarely succesful especially if resistant bacterias are present. So surgical debridement would be better option accompined with antibiotics or spull drainage of bone.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
