Understanding your concern. As per your query you have cartilage defects of the knee. Well the defect is mostly related with Anterior Cruciate Ligament . Most ACL injuries happen during sports and fitness activities that can put stress on the knee. It can also occur due to wrong movement or by birth . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI along with physical examination . Doctor may removes the damaged ligament and replaces it with a segment of tendon . Your surgeon will use a piece of tendon from another part of your knee or a tendon from a deceased donor. After surgery you'll resume another course of rehabilitative therapy.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
