Suggest Treatment For Bursitis In Diabetics

Hi, my Mother is 78 and is in hospital decayed of a mild stoke she had three weeks ago. She has been complaining of severe hip pain, which the doctors say is bursitis (as she has suffered from this before). She has been prescribed 12mg of Hydromorphine and is also taking Prednisone. She also has Type 2 Diabetes. Since being in the hospital, she has been switched over to insulin. Her blood sugar on average in the day is 26. Can this number be so high because of these two particular Meds? I don't see the pain easing and now her hospital floor is full of Norwalk virus. I want to bring her home but am told her sugar level is too high.Any suggestions on treating her bursitis in a way that doesn't affect the Diabetes?
Thank you,Juanita
