Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In Stomach

hi i am currently suffering from disscomfort in the stomach i think it is the cause of a build up of acid, rennies and gaviscon usually help but the last few days the symptoms have got worse. i have suffered from acid indegestion for around about 8 months now but rennies usually would have take it away, i belive this was the cause of too much acid as i used to go for long periods without eating at all. about 3 weeks ago i noticed it worsen i started geting bad disscomfort in the stomach and would somtimes feel sick with it but not actually vomit. after about 5 days the symptopms whent away but now a few weeks later i feel the symptoms comming back, i also have a loss of appertite and eating can make the stomach disscomfort worse. one of the only ways i can describe this disscomfort is a buring feelin in the stomach. thanks for your help Joseph

Hello dear,

Acid reflux or GERD is caused due to excess acid formation in stomach & relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus.
Medical management consists of intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole, Esomeprazole, etc. which prevent acid formation in stomach.

Additional management involves:
1. Intake of Domperidone preparations which strengthens the sphincter & prevents reflux.
2. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised.
3. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult your treating Doctor/ Gastroenterologist.
Investigation like Ultrasound scan of abdomen & Upper GI endoscopy will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Wish you a good health.
Take care.
