Suggest Treatment For Bruised And Painful Rib Cage
I fell on my back one week ago and bruised my ribs. It started feeling better after one week so I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill. Now it is getting worse and when I cough it itseems getting to the point where I can t move without pain and I felt it pop this morning. What should I do?
To help with the pain you can use a combination of paracetamol with codeine (co-codamol, for instance) and ibuprofen and try to avoid any physical activities in the next 3-4 weeks. If you have hurt a rib or even broken it, generally not specific treatment is needed other than pain control and it may take weeks for this to heal completely. During the time the injury is healing you need good pain control (as mentioned above) and also you need to prevent further damage (by avoiding activities that may make it worse, such as sports).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
