Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a small bruise on the side of my calf that I dont remember getting but in the center of the bruise is a very dark purple horizontal line that is completely straight. Im not very concerned, I was just curious as to what it could be. None of my other random little bruises have ever looked like this one.
These dark purple bruises over the side of calf could be petechial haemmoharges or some allergic reaction which could occur due to blood extravasation from the subcutaneous capillaries but the visual inspection at the site of bruise will confirm the diagnosis.
Without clinical inspection,it is very difficult to comment exactly.
You should do some blood works like blood counts,ESR, prothombin time and bleeding time.
Generally, these bruises get subsided by themselves so,there is no need of any definitive treatment. No need to worry.
However you can take symptomatic treatment like antihistamines like cetrizine 10 mg available over the counter.
Consult dermatologist or allergic specialist for further advice if bruise persists for more than 1 week.
Regards,
