Suggest Treatment For Bloating In My Left Rib Cage

I feel very bloated under my left rib cage all the time and on several occations it felt like a gas bubble had crept up under my rib cage and my heart started to pound, it took my breath, I could breathe I just felt like I couldn't breathe, I thought my heart was going to stop, this sent me into a full blown panic attack, I took a klonpen while this was happening because I also have panic disorder, my heart quit pounding and I went to the ER, they put me on the heart monitor and gave me an adivan, after about 15 to 20 minutes I was fine but I was very exhausted and I was wondering is this gas that has caused my heart to pound or is it the panic disorder?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think the symptoms are related to a panic disorder. Some advice that I can give for the bloating are:

- Avoid chewing gum
- Limit your intake of carbonated drinks
- Avoid foods that cause gas, such vegetables in the cabbage family, dried beans, and lentils
- Eat slowly and avoid drinking through a straw
- Use lactose-free dairy products (if you are lactose intolerant)

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
