Hello Joanne,

I can understand your concern. Applying ice pack to the injured area will help to stop bleeding and reduce swelling due to injury to the area.

Usually, even small facial injuries bleed a lot because of the ample blood supply to the face especially lips. However, if the bleeding is profuse, you should consult a physician, cosmetic surgeon or oral & maxillofacial surgeon to take stiches to the area to stop bleeding and ensure healing. In addition, he may need to go for x-ray of the injured nose to ensure if any bone has cracked or fractured.

If he is in too much pain right now, Ibuprofen 400 mg can be taken till you see a doctor.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your son feels better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
