Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, recently i had a cystoscopy due to incomplete void and dribbling of urine. The doctor said that he suspects a bladder neck obstruction everything else being normal including the prostate. He asked me to go ahead with my family planning and later get operated which would make me sterile. My question is if my prostate is normal why would it be operated upon, and is there any other way for it to be treated.
Alpha-blocker drug therapy is usually the first step in treating bladder neck obstruction. Alpha-blockers, such as prazosin or phenoxybenzamine, can help to relax the bladder muscles.
In some cases, self-catheterization will need to be used along with alpha-blocker medications. Otherwise, surgery and incision of the bladder neck are required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
