Suggest Treatment For Bipolar Disorder

My sister (age 55) is bipolar and her doctor recently changed her meds to include depakote. Her son found her at home, confused and falling down, so he took her to the ER. That was six days ago. Tests show that she did overdose, but toxicity levels are now down. However, her behavior is still alarming. She is confused, paranoid and cannot be left unattended. Doctors are saying it will take time for the drug to wear off completely but will not say what her prognosis for recovery is. can you please advise?

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Though from the description it is not clear that the overdose was due to depakot, I am assuming so. Also there is no percentile of overdose. Over and above, the present symptoms or irritability etc do not match with the overdose symptoms of depakot. I sincerely think your sister is having another euphoric state of her bi-polar disorder. She needs to be treated for that hyperactive state. Depakor overdose should wean off within a week or so, if it is within limit. Don't worry. You should take the opinion of the psychiatrist who presently treats her.

If you still need my assistance in this regard, please use this link. http://goo.gl/aYW2pR. Please remember to describe the whole problem with full detail.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck.
