Suggest Treatment For Bacterial Tonsillitis

Hi, I recently contracted a bacterial form of tonsillitis whilst travelling in asia. I saw a hotel doctor who examined me thoroughly and prescribed cefadroxil (500mg twice daily for 5 days) - by the time i had returned home the pain had subsided, my tonsils were less swollen and I felt fine. However my tonsils still had a few white specks here and there so I visited my EMT before the antibiotics ran out. He took a swab and said he was unconcerned about the few remaining specks on my tonsils but would prescribe the same antibiotic (though it was one he did not seem familiar with) for three more days - just to be safe. The pharmacy where I got the new batch of meds only stocked them in 1000mg pills which, thankfully, were splittable, but the blister also had a higher quantity than prescribed (enough for an additional seven days). The symptoms cleared up completely and I spent one ailment-free week goong about my business. However - I then began to get a sore throat which I at first treated as I would usually treat a sore throat: warm scarf, lozenges, plenty to drink, and a couple of days of rest. But the symptons worsend and I felt my tonsils aching - much the same way they did with the initial infection. So in my now bed-ridden state I made the - admittedly foolish - descision to not wait until the tonsillitis returned with a vengance and instead when straight back on the antibiotics which I have now taken for six more days (and will be finished tomorrow). Tonsils and lymph nodes on the neck no longer look/feel swollen and haven t done for 2-3 days, but i still have throat pain which is sometimes closer to a tonsil (either left or right - but never both) or moves along to the back/base of my tounge - also - always on one side. The pain can move from the left to the right side of my mouth within 3 hours and will stay there for a day or two before moving back. Ibuprofen is very effective against the pain, but without it the pain can get pretty severe - particularly in the late evening/early morning. During the day it is closer to mild discomfort than actual pain. I would love to hear a professional opinion on what would be the best course of action to knock this symptom on the head. My guess is that I probably just need to ditch all meds and let it sort itself out, but I am afraid of making things worse by leaving something potentially serious untreated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello
I understand your agony. What was the swab report? was there any growth? If yes, treatment should be based on antibiotic sensitivity... It's generally not advisable to prescribe antibiotics without looking at the patient. However, the first line of antibiotic is Augmentin, which is what I generally start with.. Don't take this as a prescription, consult an ENT doctor.. Repeated episodes of tonsillitis are an indication for Tonsillectomy..( surgical removal)
