Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is very bad that you have fractured your spine. But it is not clear from your complaint what part of lumbar vertebra e.g. body, transverse process, spinous process and what level it is!!

It is important to know the site as most dangerous fractures are of body which involve canal, containing cord and nerve. Level is important as upper lumbar vertebra fractures cause more deficit due to affect on more nerves. You can mention in next question

For your back pain, you can follow few tips
: Take bed rest. But stretch your limbs and move your all limb joints
: Avoid load bearing
: Do not do extreme spine movements like forward bending or extension..
: You can take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription.
: You can apply painkiller gel like diclofenac gel at pain site to relieve pain
: Apply warm compresses at pain site to relieve spasm
: If still no relief, you can go for stronger painkiller like oral dose of Aceclofenac-Paracetamol/Tramadol-Paracetamol combination or
injectable medication like Tramadol/Diclofenac/Morphine or
painkiller patch like Diclofenac patch after proper prescription from doctor.

After some relief, you can start stretching exercise after consulting doctor and physiotherapist. The doctor might also advise repeat scanning CT or MRI spine to know the status of your spine, cord and nerves. Further management will be decided after it.

For headache, first we will find out the cause. It could be due to direct head injury or stress due to your spine injury.

If it is occurring at focal injury site, associated with swelling, redness, tender on pressing, it is due to head injury
For relief, you can apply
: Icepacks at injury site
: Take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription

If it dull aching, involving whole skull, feeling like band around forehead, it is due to tension headache or stress.

For relief, you can
: Take bed rest.
: Avoid bright light
: Take painkiller as mentioned above
Hope it will help you. Still no relief, you should consult doctor.

Thanks. Take care.
