Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Auto Immune Disease With Speckled ANA
I received a recent test showing that I have some type of autoimmune disease with a SS-A and SS-B (both positive) with speckled ANA (I believe that s the term I don t have my notes on hand) and I was looking for some herbal or vitamin regiment to start. My liver enzeyms are also high AST 51 ALT 71.
The report of your lab test is suggestive of Sjogren's syndrome. It is an autoimmune disease characterized by dry eyes and a dry mouth and is usually associated with other immune system disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus, or mixed connective tissue disorder.
There is no documented evidence showing the efficacy of herbs or vitamin regimen in the treatment of such disorders. Drugs like hydroxychloroquine and/or methotrexate are found to effective in the treatment of this disorder. A rheumatologist's consultation however is recommended for further evaluation and treatment.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
