Suggest Treatment For Arthritis In Hands And Knees Along With Severe Pain

I am currently taking care of an elder man 88 yrs old. He has problems with arthritis in hands and knees. His knees cause him so much pain that he uses a walker and rests with his legs and feet propped up. His feet are swelling and have a bluish gray color. I ve made an appointment for him but it s days away, is there anything else that I can or should do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

He seems to have osteoarthritis. While having acute pain & inflammation, he should stop exerting ice pack /hot pack & over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs taken after food would relieve him to someextent.

Consultation of a orthopedic doctor, needful investigations would reveilhos joint &bone dencity status & specific treatment thereafter with physiotherapy exercises after relief of painwould make him comfortable.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
