Hello,
You have history of arthritic
shoulder pain and now you are experiencing pain and irritation in the gym. Shoulder pain can also be triggered by overuse
tendonitis,
rotator cuff tears, degenerative tendinosis,
frozen shoulder, etc. You are suggested to give rest to your shoulder for a couple of days, rotator cuff may become weak overtime and become injured, avoid strenuous exercises in the gym, just relax.
To get rid of the pain you can take NSAIDS, naproxen or Combiflam, one SOS after food for relief. You can also take muscle relaxants, Baclofen, one SOS when needed to help relax inflammation or pain due to strain, trauma or tear of the tendons or muscles. Cold compression or
heat therapy are effective.
Shoulder massage with a pain relieving ointment or application of pain relieving sprays (volini) combined with exercises under a physical therapist are effective.
However, you are suggested to get blood tests,
urinalysis and imaging tests done to detect the current status of the pathology causing you discomfort. Get clinically assessed, you will be treated accordingly. For better lubrication of the joints you can take vitamin E rich food or supplements (Evion-400mg), once daily for 15 days.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
