Suggest Treatment For Arm, Wrist And Knuckle Pain

My father, 83, is experiencing extreme arm, wrist and knuckle pain. His PA put him on Prednisone regimen. His hand and ankle on that same side are swelling. The pain is getting worse. The PA told him he had muscle inflammation. Should we seek emergency care?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to rheumatoid arthritis.

For further assessment you may require X Ray, RA factor after rheumatologist consultation.

For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition.

Do regular physical therapy after physiotherapist consultation

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam Kale
