Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, Ive been experiencing anxiety from which I know was caused from a small scare I had with my health. short story is that I thought I had appendicitis and it turned out to be only a small back soreness. I went through small bouts of panic and anxiety then depression afterwards (who knew how powerful the mind was). well my question is that now I am over most of the anxiety and I have pretty much beat it. but now I feel my stomach has been having some issues. what keeps the anxiety here is the fact that I keep thinking something really bad might be wrong with me and I am having trouble getting over it. I have this small burning in my stomach when im in certain sitting positions and Ive been burping a lot purposely to remove gas although it seems I have been doing it less and less these past days. im afraid I might have diabtes or cancer(these thoughts keep the anxiety alive. maybe there is something wrong with me. maybe there isn t. and by the way. before all this anxiety began, I was living a normal life. and this is my first time asking a question here. I was actually only going to look for questions and answers but I saw that I could ask a question so maybe you can help me. thank you for your time Dr.
Initially you had anxiety and then suffered from appendicitis. Now you have feelings of something wrong in stomach. You feel that there is some burning in stomach and you have to burp again and again purposefully to remove gas. You have anxiety that you might have cancer or diabetes. See these symptoms point towards diagnosis of health anxiety or Hypochondriasis. This is a type of psychiatric disorder in which individuals believe that he might have some serious illness. All investigations come normal still they remain anxious.
Try to read good books, exercise daily and if possible learn meditation and yoga. These modalities will help in increasing confidence.
Consult a Psychiatrist if problem persist. Medicines like Duloxetin, Venlafaxine (SNRIs) or Escitalopram (SSRIs) can be used. These drugs are anti anxiety drugs and help in early recovery. Combination of clinidium bromide and chlordiazepoxide is one of good fixed dose combination for health anxiety related to abdominal complaints.
Visit a psychiatrist for evaluation.
Thanks
