Suggest Treatment For Anxiety Disorder

Hello, I m feeling anxiety symptoms, such as headaches, chest pains, muscle tremors and numbness, palpitations, I say this because I ve been previously diagnoised with anxiety disorder and took medication for it, which then resolved the problem until now. I m currently feeling something else, I feel my blood going through my heart every now and then, speacially when I m at bed I can feel it every 3-6 seconds, therefore I cannot rest well as this is annoying me and making me worry, should I? Or is it just another anxiety symptom?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

However, there are conditions the could have overlapping symptoms with those of anxiety disorder.

For instance, a thyroid problem (usually hyperthyroidism) can cause similar symptoms due to excess thyroid hormones in the body.

I suggest getting your thyroid hormone levels checked to rule it out and to visit your primary care physician to ensure this is anxiety related symptoms and not an organic cause.

Relaxation techniques and medications such as Fluoxetine are used to treat anxiety. These are however prescription medications.

For the new symptom that you are currently experiencing and considering you have mentioned palpitations earlier, I would suggest getting your heart auscultated by your primary care physician to ensure the absence of any valve disease leading to abnormal heart sounds or the presence of a heart rhythm disorder.

Your primary care physician may suggest getting an EKG and an echocardiogram if they sense any of the above two.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Sanjana Nagraj
