I am currently experiencing ankle/foot swelling. We have travelled from NY to warmer weather In Florida and I am walking a lot but this has never happened to me before. Some people have suggested taking a diuretic but I am taking Metoprolol for tachichardia/blood pressure. I ann concerned about the connection. Thank you...

Hi,

Ankle and foot swelling can be caused by a variety of factors, including long periods of standing or sitting, being overweight, pregnancy, and underlying medical conditions such as heart or kidney disease. In your case, the swelling may be related to the change in climate and increased activity levels, as you mentioned that you have been walking a lot.

It is important to rule out any underlying medical conditions that could be causing the swelling, so it is recommended that you speak with your doctor. Your doctor may order some tests to determine the cause of the swelling.

In the meantime, there are some things you can do to help reduce the swelling:
- Elevate your feet: Prop up your feet with a pillow or two when you are sitting or lying down to help reduce the swelling.
- Wear compression stockings: These can help improve circulation and reduce swelling in the ankles and feet.
- Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help flush out excess fluids in your body.
- Avoid salty foods: Eating too much salt can cause your body to retain water, which can contribute to swelling.
- Take breaks from standing or sitting: If you have to stand or sit for long periods, take frequent breaks to move around and stretch your legs.

It is not recommended to take diuretics without first consulting with your doctor, especially if you are already taking medication for tachycardia and blood pressure. Your doctor can advise you on the appropriate course of treatment based on your specific medical history and current medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
