Suggest Treatment For An Enlarged Heart In A Child

My five month old niece has just been admitted to hospital. She was born premature and has been doing well until a couple of days ago when she went off her food and developed breathing problems. We have been told that she has an enlarged heart and there is fluid surrounding it. What is the prognosis? Will she survive? What treatment will she receive? Is there hope for this precious and long-awaited child? (Aunty) Kerry

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. She might probably be having dilated cardiomyopathy or myocarditis. Prognosis depends on how fast she is responding to treatment. She needs anti failure therapy. Definitely there is hope. Do not worry.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
Dr. Sumanth MBBS., DCH., DNB (Paed).,
