Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic,
Thanks for the query.
It could be a Entamoeba hystolytica is a protozoal parasite ,which attacks human intestines to cause the distressing colicky pain with loose motions/
constipation known as
amebiasis.
I would like to recommend followings to avoid recurrence.
1)Personal/ food hygiene- The recurrence of the symptoms is a common factor in this infection. This is because of self reinfection/ infection through contaminated water or food.
2) The parasite is excreted through patients faces- which can reinfect the person by feco-oral route. The self hygiene and proper cleaning of hands is important.
Medical management-
In spite of treating the invasive forms of parasite , few of them still remain in loops of intestinal lumen unaffected by the drug to cause recurrence of the symptoms periodically.
To avoid this a bit of modification in drug regime is used. ,
1) To start with Metranidazole is given which acts on invasive form of parasite ( for 10 days).
2) It is followed by Paramomycin or Diloxinide furoate to treat the parasite that remains in intestines & reinfects later on( 10 days.)
3) Lacto bacillus preparation is added to get healthy intestinal flora that helps regaining intestinal health.
The suitable dosage & medicines are to be selected by treating doctor according to general condition of the patient/ drug allergies/ presence of other problems like
kidney disease/ulcerations of bowels.
I would therefore advise you to
consult a gastroenterologist for his expert guidance about treatment.
Regards,
