Suggest Treatment For Alcoholism And Drug Addition

My brother-in-law had an aortic mechanical valve replacement and a permaneny pacemaker inserted, in March of this year. He has been drinking alcohol excessively, smoking marijuana and eating all of the wrong foods. I wondered how long this could possibly continue. He is 59 years old. I am worried about my sister, since we have all tried to talk with him and how self-destructive he is being. Thank You

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Dear User,

Thanks for using health care magic.

From the available description it appears that your brother in law is dependent on multiple substances and not motivated enough to quit these things.
You need to consult a doctor preferably a psychiatrist for proper detoxification of your brother in law. Currently medicine are available that can be highly useful in this scenario.
Other than dependence there is high probability as he is self medicating himself to counter one or another depressive symptoms.

'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks
