Suggest Treatment For Acidity, Abdominal Gas And Indigestion

R/sir.... From last 10 yrs I am having problem of acidity and gases, digestion disorder. for that whenver the problem i take some tablets relating to acidity. but now the problem is severe. when acidity level goes up that time i can feel headache, giddiness, every goes on round round, I have to take help of someone for standing. i am working at police departmet so there is no set time for lunch or dinner. pl. guide me what to do and to which specialist doctor I should refer...

I am sorry that you have cope with indigestion and acidity for the past ten years. Your symptoms do sound rather severe as well - headache, giddiness and spinning. I would like to make sure that nothing else is going wrong with you.

First, I'd like to advise you on what you can do for yourself:
The most important way to beat stomach acid and indigestion issues is to have frequent meals. This is very important - no medication or investigation can help if this cannot be sorted out.
I understand that you work with the police. Right now, you need to eat frequent small meals - that means having a small, healthy bite every 2 to 4 hours when awake. I hope that you can keep snacks in your bag or at your desk so that you can gradually distend your stomach and have it get used to digesting food on time. As soon as you feel discomfort, stop eating and try again in 2 hours. This is to retrain your stomach to distend and digest normally.
I need you to stop eating spicy, oily foods and preserved foods that will worsen your symptoms. Beverages like coffee, tea and hot chocolate as well as carbonated drinks need to be stopped right now. If you tolerate milk well, you can take milk in place of these beverages. Besides food, cigarette smoking and consuming alcohol will worsen your situation. If you do either of these, you need to cut down immediately.
Consider eating bland foods such as rice porridge with vegetables / chicken, oats with nuts and fruit bits and soups to help you fill up gently. Avoid heavy oily meals as these will cause your sensitive stomach pain.
Eating enough vegetables and drinking water are very important to settle indigestion and help you go to the toilet regularly. Do note that medication that treats acidity can result in constipation. Medication like duspatalin can help with severe indigestion - discuss this option with your regular doctor.
I'd recommend you to get good probiotics and take them everyday for at least 3 months to help you recover.
Once your symptoms are better, you can slowly try to eat 3 proper meals every day.
As for medication, medicine that help with acidity like proton pump inhibitors e.g. omeprazole can be used twice a day before food up to 6 weeks. After that it is strongly recommended that you have your regular doctor arrange with a gastroenterologist to further investigate you, with a gastroscope to make sure that there is no severe erosion or active ulceration.
Other medication like aspirin and pain killers can cause acidity. Check with your regular doctor if you might be on anything that is worsening your symptoms. Some supplements and herbs can also upset the stomach. Do check anything that you might be taking with your regular doctor.
Stress, which is possibly something you face at work, will worsen acidity. If you can, take a few days off and try eating small frequent meals at home at first.

If you have not done a health check this year, I recommend you see your regular doctor and have him / her carry out the following tests for you:
1. Height, weight and BMI
2. Blood pressure and ECG
3. Ultrasound of the abdomen (liver, gallbladder)
4. Comprehensive blood test inclusive of liver, kidney function, sugar control, lipids, urinalysis

The older and more overweight you are, the more at risk you are for chronic illnesses and cancer.
