I am a 54 year old female who was referred to an ENT for the sensation of globus. My family physician said it was probably acid reflux but an ENT could tell for sure with the proper scope. During the exam with the ENT, it was discovered I had 3 large left supraclavicular lymph nodes. I was given antibiotics to see if these would shrink at all, which they did not. I had no other symptoms and have no idea how long I have had these. I also had a lesion on the left side of my neck which was biopsied and turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. I was told this had nothing to do with the enlarged lymph nodes. I had a CT scan showing the largest lymph node measuring 2.3 × 1.9 × 1.4 cm. And adjacent medial conglomerate nodal mass measuring 1.9 × 1.8 × 1.4 cm with multiple prominent/mildly enlarged nodes surrounding the above mentioned largest nodes. There is also a nonspecific heterogeneous attenuation nodule in the left lobe of the thyroid gland measuring 1.2 × 1.0 × 0.7 cm. No anterior triangle lymphadenopathy (level VI) It was recommended I have a biopsy and potential further imaging to exclude an intra - abdominal malignancy i.e. gastric cancer. This is very scary to me. I had my biopsies yesterday - two core needle and two FNAs in both the lymph node and the nodule on my thyroid. I am very sore today. The lymph nodes seem soft and movable. I saw them on the ultrasound during biopsy. My question is - if I don t have thyroid cancer and my lymph nodes are benign, could I still have lymphoma or stomach cancer? Where does this all stop? I am told these aren t here for any good reason, yet I feel fine. This is the scariest thing I have ever gone through.
