Suggest Treatment For Acid-reflux And White Spots On The Vocal Cord

My ENT Dr. said I had acid-reflux and a white spot on my right vocal cord and sent me to a specialist. The specialist did surgery and it was basically a polup. No cancer, and the specialist said I did not have acid-reflux. I went back to my regular ENT a week ago and he said I have signs of acid-reflux again. I never have heart burn, and do not know what to believe now. My big concern is a chance if I do have acid reflux, I do not want it to turn into Barretts Syndrum. Do you have any advice. My voice still has not returned completely, still somewhat hoarse. Thank you, William Edwards

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Severe acid reflux can cause inflammation of the cord.
As first-line management, you can take antacids like omeprazole for symptomatic relief.
If symptoms persist better to consult a gastroenterologist and plan for an endoscopy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
