I ve been having a constant aching pain in my right shoulder blade for a week, sometimes it s sharp and feels like it s burning. When I have my husband touch the area he feels knots and I can feel the pain when it s touched, but it never goes away. Ibuprofen and heat does not make it better.

Hello,

Shoulder blade pain is usually achy and dull but sometimes it is perceived as burning sensation. The following are few causes:
1) Muscle strains - Muscle strains can result from, poor posture, heavy lifting, working at a computer for extended periods of time, exercise, other activities, even during sleep.
2) Injuries like rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocation
3) Degenerative disc disease, or a herniated or bulging disc in the spine
4) Scoliosis
5) Osteoarthritis in the joints around your neck, spine, or ribs
6) Spinal stenosis, or a narrowing of your spinal cord
7) Acid reflux
8) Fibromyalgia
9) Shingles
10) Myofascial pain syndrome
11) Nerve compression

Though clinical examination is necessary and few investigations like X-ray shoulder joint and X-ray cervical and thoracic spine help in arriving at accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Treatment depends upon the cause.
1) You can take a NSAID like Aceclofenac along with a muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxazone for pain relief
2) You may use opioids like Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Tramadol.
Please do consult an orthopedic surgeon for clinical evaluation

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
