Suggest Treatment For Accidental Ingestion Of Blistex By Infant

Hi, about 2 hrs ago, I turned my back for a moment and caught my 22month old toddler chewing an old tube of blistex. I immediately took it off her and wiped her mouth. (I m not sure how much she ingested) She drank her milk as normal and I put her to bed, an hour later, she woke up very distressed, but I have settled her back to sleep, what should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Blistex is having phenol as active ingredient. However, if it is ingested in a small amount, nothing is to be done except wiping the mouth and giving him water. If the amount ingested is large, then he may have some stomach upset and loose stool.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
