Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Cramps And Acid Reflux

I had surgery in 1996 for acid reflux. I did not have the esophogeal sphincter. In June of 2014 I had a bowel obstruction and spent 6 days in the hospital. On Decenber 19th 2014 I had surgery to repair and redo the acid reflux surgery. I also had my gallbladder removed in 2008. I have been having pain in my right side but this past friday I had some sort of attack. I was doubled over with pain and cramping in my whole abdominal area. I was sweating and almost passed out. I went to our local er and they said that there was a 4 hour wait to be seen so I came home. I had a similar attack on Saturday but it was not as severe. I see my surgeon/specialist this month on the 19th for my three month follow up since the acid reflux surgery. My question is do you think that it could be my appendix and if I should wait until my appointment and discuss this with my surgeon in Pittsburgh Pa . I am still experiencing pain in my side and diarreah and I am not sure what I should do.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of 2 surgeries for acid reflux in 1996 and redo 2014, had intestinal obstruction, gall bladder removed in 2008, have pain in the right abdomen, but the symptoms have worsened since Friday, some sort of attack, doubled over pain, sweating and nearly passed out, went to ER but came back as the wait was for 4 hours, the appointment with operating Surgeon is on 19 th of this month.

I would advise you the following:
Go back to ER stat to have clinical evaluation,
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position to see for any signs of obstruction or volvulus.
CT scan if required.
If there is an obstruction of the intestines, get admitted as you will then require the following:
Rest to the bowel by keeping you nil orally.
Intravenous fluids.
Continuous clinical monitoring.
Further treatment as per the clinical findings and reports of investigations.
I find this answer helpful
