Suggest Treatment For A Pimple Inside The Nose

I am one month post septorhinoplasty (open rhinoplasty, no implants). I developed a pimple on one nostril near the healing incision scar on the inside of the nostril. It has become infected, I think--red and inflamed. I m worried that the healing incision in my nostril will somehow be compromised. How should I treat the infection?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi. What you have is called as nasal vestibulitis. In my opinion one month is adequate time for the healing of your surgical site post septorhinoplasty. It is unlikely that the infection has a relation to your surgery and may have occurred from other possible reasons.

It is an infection of the skin lining your nasal cavity especially from the hair follicles that arise within your nose. Nasal vestibulitis is rather painful and even though it is just a pimple on your nose it is more dangerous than what it may appear and needs to be treated aggressively. Infections from this area of the nose can spread directly to the brain. They may affect the surgical scar if it progresses to a stage where there is a lot of pus accumulation leading to stretching of the nasal skin.

In my opinion you need a course of oral antibiotics, topical antisceptic ointments and anti-inflammatory medications. I would recommend that you see an ENT specialist soon to check if there is any pus accumulating at the site which may need to be drained.A medicated wick may be placed to prevent reaccumulation. IV antibiotics may also be indicated based on the severity of the infection.

Please do not try to pinch the nose or attempt drainage of pus by yourself. You may worsen the infection. Keep the area dry and let your ENT specialist manage this appropriately.

Keep yourself hydrated and take painkillers such as paracetamol 500 mg dosage 2-3 times a day till you see your ENT.
