Suggest Treatment For UTI

Hello, I have a UTI ( 100,000 E-Coli, resistant to Ampicillin, Cefazolin and Bactrim) that began in January around the 25th of the month. I went to my Doctor and was given Ceftin 500mg 2x for 7 days. Unfortunately, I still had symptoms and on February, 5th I was given a Rocephin 1gm shot. This usually works for me, however by February 15th I was feeling sick and still had the UTI symptoms, so I went to ER and was given another Rocephin 1gm shot and told to get six more administered daily by my Doctor s office. I still feel some of he UTI symptoms after two shots and when I did a home strip test this morning, it showed positive for leukocytes and negative for bacteria. Should I go to ER and request an IV of Gentamicin which has always worked in the past when I went to the ER for UTI s or continue to have the Rocephin shots? I have a long history of recurrent UTI s. Is it a problem to continue to take the Rocephin shots that don t seem to be curing this UTI? Thank you for your answer.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Rocefin, Ceftriaxon injections usually work on resistant urinary track infection but listening to your long story of using different antibiotics I can advise you to do an uroculture first. Don't take any antibiotics before the results come out. Taking antibiotics as advised by antibiogram is advisable.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
