yes couldyou help me with uti.sense colon surgery,my ureath was sniped.they redone it.i was in hosp.for almost a month.with cather in me/.for urine out put.before i went home they took it out.had to have stiten thaken out.i keep not being able to get reid of the uti

Thanks for writing in.

Since you have a history of colon surgery, it is possible that your urinary tract infection is a result of prolonged catheterzation. Sometimes the bacteria in UTI are resistant to one group of antibiotics. The choice of antibiotics is made after doing a culture and sensitivity test. This will tell which antibiotic will work against your UTI after isolating the disease causing bacteria.

The antibiotic which is known to be most effective against UTI is nitrofurantoin and you might discuss if you require this medicine. In few patients the treatment is continued for a longer duration to clear the infection completely. Monitoring your kidney function is also important when taking this medicine. Please do not worry.
