HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
As you suggested PCOS can be difficult to manage but there are treatments available to help with the
irregular periods and also to help conceive if this is desired.
It is a condition that it is associated with resistance of the body to its own insulin so part of treatment involves reducing this resistance so that the insulin inside can work better.
Treatment of PCOS: (1)
weight loss of any excess weight. This is a very effective way of treating this condition
(2)metformin- helps to reduce insulin resistance
(3)oral contraceptive- would help normalize the periods if do not wish conception
(4)medication to help with ovulation (release of an egg) to help conceive
There has been some medical studies trying to see if there is a link between PCOS and ovarian, endometrial (lining of the uterus) or
breast cancer.
There is a slight increased risk of
endometrial cancer but so far no link to breast or
ovarian cancer.
Hormonal therapy can be given to decrease the risk
I hope this helps
