Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I am 44 and have been on Kilojest & fluoxatine for 2 years , I have found myself going back to deppression mood swings & putting on weight I would like to stop the HRT can I do that suddenly? I just dont want to be on medication as I have irritable bowel as well which Im sure this aggravates?? Help
You are taking KILOGEST (estradiol and norethinsterone) and FLUOXETINE since last 2 years. Kilogest is commonly used in menopausal syndrome and is a common drug of HRT. If you want to stop using it I would advise you to taper the tablets gradually instead going cold turkey. You have mood swings and are putting weight. As per my opinion you should take opinion of a psychiatrist for mood swings. HRT can control hot flushes but mood swings can't be controlled by HRT. Medicines like Duloxetine, Venlafaxine have good roles in post menopausal mood swings. You also have problem of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Medicines like Clinidium bromide, Chlordiazepoxide combination have excellent roles in IBS. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.
Thanks, hope this helps you
