Dear Ma am, Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
I appreciate your concern for your son.

As of today there is no specific and successful treatment for G6PD deficiency which is a genetic disease due to absence of an important enzyme responsible for preventing breakdown of red cells during oxidative stress.
Research has been going on to identify medications that may inhibit oxidative stress induced hemolysis of G6PD-deficient red blood cells

The main treatment for G6PD deficiency is avoidance of oxidative stressors
which cause hemolysis like an infection, oxidative drug, or fava beans, etc.

Following drugs are known to cause hemolysis and hence should be avoided:
Sulfonamides, Dapsone, Primaquine, Nalidixic acid, Nitrofurantoin, Rasburicase.

The supportive treatment of G6PD includes:

Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) - an antioxidant, which can protect the red blood cells from damage.
Folic acid and iron potentially are also useful in the treatment of hemolysis.
Blood transfusion may be required for severe anemia due to hemolysis.

Hope this answers your query.
Wishing your son a very good health.
