Suggest Treatment For ADHD With Hypothyroidism And Anemia

My son is 14. He has taken Concerta for ADHD for 9 years. His current dose is 54mg once daily. The boy recently was diagnosed with central hypothyroidism. He had developed iron deficiency anemia and continues to struggle to store iron in his body. His last ferritin stores were a 12. We just started him on .025 mcg of levothyroxine as per the pediatric endocrinologist's recommendations. Could the central hypothyroid problem and the anemia have been caused by his use of teh concerta? What type of doctor do we need to see to find out how to treat his ADHD from here. Please help!

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, Thanks for asking.
In my opinion medications for ADHD does not cause central hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism may be the cause of anaemia and low iron stores.
Continue to give thyroxine and iron supplements.
You will have to consult an endocrinologist for his thyroid problem and a developmental paediatrician for ADHD. They both will work in coordinated fashion to give best results for your child.
I hope I have helped you.
Thank you.
