Suggest The Right Treatment For Ulcers That Look Like Small Holes
I have had an ostomy since 2009. Right now I have a very itchy rash that has developed ulcers that look like small holes. I have been to an ostomy nurse, wound nurse and lastly a dermatologist NP. One said it was a fungal infection and gave me powder. After several days I called again and was told to go to a dermatologist. The N.P. there said it was not a fungal infection but an irritation. She gave me a cream. Obviously they have no idea that you cannot use cream and be able to keep the appliance on. It s like nailing jello to a tree. Who do I believe?
* Chronic discharging sinus with ostomy since a long time, indicate possible bony infection in terms of osteomyelitis via staph aureus or other bugs.
* In my clinic, I do recommend to undergo
- culture report of the sinus discharge
- MRI of the part for looking into tissue details with internal pathologic damage
- uncontrolled underlying systemic illness as diabetes or other immunocompromised states
- chronic use of steroids for various reasons.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
