Suggest The Ideal Dosage For Citalopram Taken For Depression

I am 63. I have taken 50 mg Tramadol and 1 mg Clonazepam at night for Restless Leg for 6 years and it works well. I was also prescribed 10 mg Citalopram 6 months ago for depression, and take it at noon, but still don t have much relief for the depression. Is 20 mg of Citalopram safe?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Yes, 20 mg is safe. That is the maximum safe dose for patients that are over 60 years old. Please also be aware that clonazepam may be making your depression worse, it is a central nervous system depressant. You may want to talk to your doctor about tapering that off and using another class of drug for your restless leg.
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
