Suggest The Cause For Abnormal Brown Stools

I once found a brown string in my stool, but I didn't pull it out. I let the water move it around a bit, but it didn't move. I think it's a worm, and it was pretty long. My questions are do I need to consult a doctor (I haven't really noticed any other worms after that one time), and how common is it for dead worms to be passed in stools and how common is it to have worms in our bodies?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

I have read your query and understand the concern.

As per your descriptions, it could be round dead worms but requires further evaluation by clinical examination and some relevant tests.

However,it is quite uncommon nowadays to have worms in intestine especially in upper socio-economic class group but it could be possible to have dead worms in stool which require medical attention on urgent basis.

You should go for complete blood counts,ESR, stool examination for R/M and for ova-cyst.

You may need de-worming drugs (like albendazole 400 mg) once the worms will be confirmed by the blood and stool tests to kill these parasites with other symptomatic medications.

So,it would be advisable that you see general physician for further evaluation and complete treatment.
