Suggest Tests To Diagnose HIV After Having Intercourse With HIV Positive Person

I'm a 20 year old hiv+ female and I recently just had sex for the first time. My boyfriend is hiv- but he knew about my status. He is now concerned that he might have gotten hiv, and I don't know what to do. The first time we had sex the condom broke but it during anal.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Since you are HIV positive and your boyfriend is negative so every time you have intercourse proper protection should be used to prevent transmission. As the condom broke during anal intercourse so this is a high risk and he should be get himself tested for possible transmission.

HIV RNA test is a test that can detect infection as early as two weeks of transmission. But the test is not available commonly. Forth generation Rapid tests as HIV 1/2 antibody, p24 antigen test (combo test) can help in 3-4 weeks of transmission. Any good standard lab can do that test. For conclusive report antibody test (HIV 1/2) should be repeated at 12 weeks. If test comes out to be negative at 12 weeks then no need to worry. Please avoid unprotected intercourse in future.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
